Ruth White (born 1925 in Pittsburgh, PA, died 2013 in Los Angeles, CA) was an American electronic music pioneer known for her innovative use of the Moog synthesizer. Her 1971 release, Short Circuits, describes her as “among today’s most gifted arbiters of what is termed ‘the new music.’” Throughout the mid-1960s to early 1970s, she produced a series of notable recordings, including “Seven Trumps From The Tarot Card And Pinions” (1968), “Flowers of Evil” (1969), and “Short Circuits” (1970), showcasing surprising and novel applications of the Moog synthesizer and other electronic musical equipment. Although her use of technology was prominent in the late 1960s, much of her career was dedicated to creating educational recordings.
