Ry-Co Jazz emerged as pan-African heroes in the 1960s by introducing their vibrant Congo/Latin rhythms to West Africa. Founded in Congo in 1958/59 and managed by a hit parade guitarist who first brought Franco into the recording studio, the band featured original members, including Panda Gracia. They were later joined by an ace guitarist who remained with the group until their journey concluded in 1972. From 1967, with a sax master on board, Ry-Co Jazz spent four years in the French Antilles, significantly influencing the pioneers of 'zouk' music.
