Sabu Martinez was an American conguero and percussionist, recognized as a prominent figure in the Cubop movement during the 1950s. He was born on July 14, 1930, in El Barrio (Spanish Harlem), New York City, USA. Sabu passed away on January 13, 1979, in Sweden at the age of 48 due to a gastric ulcer.
