Sacha Distel was a French singer and jazz guitarist, born on January 29, 1933, in Paris, France. He passed away on July 22, 2004, in Rayol-Canadel, France. A nephew of a big band leader, Distel gained recognition as a singer with his cover of "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head," which reached #10 in the U.K. charts in 1970. As a songwriter, he achieved a chart presence in the U.S. with "The Good Life." Distel originally composed the song "La Belle Vie" with French lyrics, which later had English lyrics added, leading to its success in 1963, where it hit #18 in the U.S. (#7 adult contemporary) and #27 in the U.K. In 1997, he was awarded France's highest civilian honor, "The Legion of Honor." Distel was also recognized as "best guitarist" by Jazz Hot magazine and various critics during the 1950s.
