Sadiki, born Henry Buckley Jr. in Rollington Town, Kingston, Jamaica, was influenced by his father, a singer/songwriter and Music Director for the Jamaica Constabulary Force Band. He migrated to the United States in the late '80s, settling in Chicago's northside, where he immersed himself in the vibrant Jamaican community and was exposed to the latest Reggae sounds alongside Hip-Hop and R&B. In the late '90s, Sadiki signed with Scratchie Records, owned by D'arcy Wretzky and Adam Schlesinger, and released his self-titled debut album in 1997 under the name Pancho Kryztal. Despite receiving good reviews, the album's sales were disappointing due to corporate changes at Mercury Records. Undeterred, he returned to Jamaica in 1998 and recorded "Rescue Me" with producer Tony "CD" Kelly. He adopted the name Sadiki, meaning "faithful or loyal," in 1999 at the suggestion of reggae producer "Computer" Paul Henton. Sadiki achieved success with the dancehall hit "Gal Dem Everytime" in 2001 and collaborated with Beres Hammond, performing on his Music is Life World Tour from 2002 to 2004.
