Sally Oldfield, born on August 3, 1947, in Dublin, Ireland, was raised in the Roman Catholic faith of her mother, Maureen. She spent her childhood in Reading, Berkshire, where she began studying ballet at the age of four and excelled in various dance styles, winning numerous competitions. At eleven, she received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dancing in London and later moved on to the Royal Ballet School at White Lodge, but she left ballet after two years. Oldfield achieved three A-Levels at Grade A and studied classical piano to Grade 7. She attended St Joseph's Convent School in Reading, where she became friends with Marianne Faithfull, and later studied English Literature and Philosophy at Bristol University. Her musical career began in early 1968 with demo recordings alongside her younger brother, Mike Oldfield, under the guidance of Mick Jagger. Shortly after, she formed the folk music duo The Sallyangie with Mike. The duo was signed to Transatlantic Records and recorded their only album, "Children of the Sun," in August 1968, featuring songs mainly co-written by the siblings and showcasing some of Mike's early guitar work, with contributions from Terry Cox on drums and Ray Warleigh on flute. For PRS & BMI, she uses the name Sally Anne Oldfield.
