Sammy Fain, born Sam E. Fein on June 17, 1902, in New York City, was an American composer of popular music and occasional vocalist. He passed away on December 6, 1989, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 87. Fain was known for his extensive collaborations, notably writing classics like "Let A Smile Be Your Umbrella." He also worked with another lyricist on the song "That Old Feeling." His Broadway credits include notable shows such as "Everybody's Welcome," "Right This Way," "Hellzapoppin'," "I'll Be Seeing You," "Flahooley," "Ankles Aweigh," "Christine," and "Something More." In addition to his Broadway work, Fain composed music for over 30 films from the 1930s to the 1950s. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song nine times, winning twice for "Secret Love" from "Calamity Jane" in 1954 and "Love Is A Many-Splendored Thing" in 1955. He also contributed the second theme to the TV series "Wagon Train" in 1958, co-writing it with a long-time collaborator. Fain's work extended to animated films, contributing to the song scores for "Alice in Wonderland" (1951), as well as other Walt Disney films like "Peter Pan" (1963) and "The Rescuers
