Sammy Nestico was a highly respected trombonist and arranger, born on February 6, 1924, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He served as the former staff arranger for ABC radio station, WCAE (now WTAE), in Pittsburgh. Nestico passed away on January 17, 2021, in Pittsburgh. Throughout his career, he directed music programs at Westinghouse Memorial High School in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania, Pierce College in Los Angeles, California, and the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. He was also a former member of the U.S. Air Force Band and the U.S. Marine Band. Nestico orchestrated music for major film studios, including 20th Century Fox, Universal, Paramount, Warner Brothers, MGM, and Columbia. In addition, he arranged and/or conducted albums for notable recording artists such as Phil Collins, Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Sarah Vaughan, Toni Tennille, Patti Austin, Nancy Wilson, Pia Zadora, Paul Anka, Pat Boone, Ronnie Milsap, and Daniel Rodriguez, among others.
