Sandie Shaw is a British singer born on February 26, 1947, in Dagenham, Essex. She was married from 1968 to 1978 and to Nik Powell, co-founder of the Group, from 1982 to 1995. Shaw gained fame by winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1967 with her song "Puppet on a String." She became a regular on popular British TV programs of the time, including Top of the Pops, Ready Steady Go!, and Thank Your Lucky Stars. Known for epitomizing the "swinging Sixties," her trademark of performing barefoot earned her the nickname "barefoot Sandie." In addition to her English hits, she recorded many singles in Italian, French, German, and Spanish. She retired from the music industry in 2013.
