Sandra Wright was a talented singer born on October 1, 1948, in Memphis, TN, U.S.A. She began her musical journey at the age of four, singing in school and church, and later trained to be an opera singer at Tennessee State University (TSU). Growing up in Memphis, she was influenced by the blues and barbeque culture of Beale Street, and she was related to the legendary blues musician Memphis Slim. While attending TSU, Sandra participated in a talent contest where she met "Sweet" Charles Sherrelle, a member of the backing band, who encouraged her to pursue her singing career. She won the contest singing Rhythm and Blues. After college, she toured with the Canned Souls and recorded an album titled "Wounded Woman" for Stax / Truth records in 1974, although it was never officially released by Stax. The album was later released by Demon Records in 1989. Following the loss of Stax to the IRS, Sandra performed at the New Modern Era club in Nashville for 17 years. It was during this time that B-3 master Moe Denham discovered her talent, leading to her joining him and drummer Lloyd Herrman in a local band called Bordello. She subsequently toured the U.S. and Canada with Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown's band. In late 1989, Sandra returned to Nashville and, along with Moe, John, Lloyd, and guitarist Pete Marriott, formed the Sandra Wright
