**Bio:** SASS was a popular showband based in New York City, known for their performances in clubs throughout NYC, Rhode Island, and New Jersey, including the iconic Stone Pony. They served as a backup band for legendary acts like The Coasters and Chuck Berry, even playing at Madison Square Garden. The group later became part of NYC's "No Wave" movement, incorporating a "Punk Funk" element and performing alongside James White & The Blacks at the Peppermint Lounge and various Bowery Clubs. They had a notable two-month engagement at the Queens College Rathskellar, sharing the stage with a young Madonna. SASS held a prominent presence at famous New York clubs such as Leviticus and was one of the house bands at The Cellar, the home of Kinky Foxx and Platinum Hook. Their sound was heavily influenced by 70s funk and British punk, drawing parallels to Rick James and Prince, although they were unaware of these connections at the time. The band's recordings aimed to balance their raw funk style with a more polished sound, influenced by their engineers and producers. Over the years, SASS underwent several lineups, incorporating members from various bands in Jamaica Queens. The name "SASS" was inspired by their motto: “Jack Sass Kicks A**.”
