The Satagans were formed in the late 1960s by a trio consisting of a lead vocalist, a vocalist and guitarist, and Willie Logan, who also contributed vocals. They recorded a three-song demo with a producer, which was subsequently picked up by Yambo-label. Tragically, one of the members passed away before the record was released. Following this, Dixon chose to re-record the tracks with a new lead vocalist, supported by The Pharoahs' flutist and conguero, both of whom later joined Earth Wind and Fire. Their A-side track "Smokin'" received some airplay on Chicago radio, but the group disbanded quickly due to their lack of live performances.
