Savage Republic is an industrial band from Los Angeles, California, active since the early 1980s. The band was formed by UCLA students along with Mark Erskine, who was also responsible for the graphic design. The original lineup included Philip Drucker (a.k.a. Jackson Del Rey) and Jeff Long. They initially had a different name but changed it shortly before releasing their debut album, "Tragic Figures," in 1982. After two 7" releases, the band disbanded in 1983, with Del Rey later forming another project that used some of Savage Republic's last recordings for their debut LP, "Jedda by the Sea." In 1984, Licher and Erskine reformed Savage Republic with a new lineup, bringing in additional members and releasing the "Trudge" EP in 1985, followed by the album "Ceremonial" in 1986. Erskine left the band, and Brad Laner took his place, while Del Rey rejoined. The group released their third LP, "Jamahiriya," in 1988 and toured Europe that year, which would be their final tour. They gave their last performance in February 1989, disbanding shortly afterward. However, a fourth LP titled "Customs" was released later that year, recorded in Greece during their final tour.
