Kato Sawako (May 27, 1978 – March 31, 2024) was a Japanese sound artist based in Tokyo and New York. She graduated from Keio University, SFC, Japan, in 2002, where she studied computing culture and sound under Christopher Penrose, as well as environmental information through interdisciplinary research. Sawako's music is characterized by its contemplative nature and strong aleatoric elements, reflecting her experiences in art, documentary video, and workshops for amateur artists. She passed away quietly at her family home in Tokyo on March 31, 2024, as reported by her label 12k.
