**Scapa Flow Biography** Scapa Flow was formed in May 1988 in Uppsala by Johan Nygren and Carl Sjöström, who were previously involved in other bands. They were joined by drummer Andreas Carlsson and later by Johan Lavsund. Initially, the band utilized synths, drum machines, and an old C-64 as a sequencer, with a significant emphasis on delay effects. Their first demo cassette, "The Core," was recorded quickly and distributed locally, featuring older songs like "Psycho" and "War." Shortly after, they connected with Front Music Productions (FMP), which led to their song "Servant" being included in a pan-European techno compilation. This exposure garnered media attention, and the band performed live for the first time in October 1988. By the end of 1988, they recorded their second demo tape, "Crucial Impact," which included several enduring tracks. In 1989, they began to develop a distinct image alongside their music, leading to the creation of the "monk'n'roll" style. Their mini LP, "The Guide," was released in November 1989, following a successful live performance and the sale of their compilation "Overflow." The band continued to evolve, recording new material and touring Sweden in 1990, but faced challenges when FMP merged with other companies. They released their second full-length album, "Chased by Sunset," in August 1991
