**Bio: Schicksal** Schicksal is the alias of Rudi Huybrechts, who was born in Hoboken, a small town near Antwerp, Belgium. As a teenager, Rudi studied music and piano but quickly grew tired of traditional teaching methods. At the age of 15, in 1982, he purchased a Roland SH-101 synthesizer with money earned from his first student job. He named his project Schicksal, meaning "Fate," inspired by the term used by Jews during their deportation in World War II. Influenced by Front 242's debut album "Geography," DAF’s "Alles Ist Gut," and Kraftwerk’s "Man Machine" and "Computer World," Rudi began experimenting with synthesizers and drum machines in his small 3x3m bedroom. The tracks featured on "Perpetuum Cycle" reflect this period, showcasing the essence of his hometown and the cold war era, as he sought to blend melody and harmony into minimal electronic music. In 1988, during the New Beat craze in Belgium, Rudi convinced Marc Grouls, the resident DJ at the discotheque Prestige in Antwerp, to play his track “24 hours.” The response was electrifying, leading to a contract with Maurice Engelen for a maxi-single release on Subway Records (SUBWAY 48).
