Quincy Matthew Hanley, better known by his stage name Schoolboy Q, is an American hip hop recording artist from South Central Los Angeles, California, born on October 26, 1986. He signed with the independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) in 2009 and later secured a recording contract with Interscope Records in late 2011. Schoolboy Q is also a member of the hip hop supergroup Black Hippy, alongside fellow California-based rappers Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and Kendrick Lamar. His music career began with the release of his first full-length project, a mixtape titled ScHoolboy Turned Hustla, in 2008, followed by another mixtape, Gangsta & Soul, in 2009. He released his first independent album, Setbacks, in January 2011, which reached number 100 on the US Billboard 200 chart. His second independent album, Habits & Contradictions, debuted at number 111 on the same chart. After signing with Interscope, he recorded his major-label debut studio album, Oxymoron, which was released on February 25, 2014, and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200.
