Second Sky is a musical trio composed of Billy Medina, Wes DiIorio, and Bill Speakman, known for their unique sound that blends elements of the past and future, as well as organic and electronic influences. Rooted in Trip-Hop, their music incorporates a diverse range of styles, including Pop, Classical Indian Music, Shoegaze, Chillwave, and Disco, resulting in a distinctly recognizable sound. Their latest album, "Touching the Surface," showcases their signature dub-influenced fusion, featuring intricately arranged pop songs enriched with Beatles-inspired harmonies and expansive sonic landscapes. While the core group consists of three members, Second Sky frequently collaborates with various friends and artists, such as sitarist John Protopapas and a regular horn section made up of Todd Fulginiti, Darnell Scott, and Alex Banias, as well as vocalist Tina M. The band has also made a mark in the remix scene, having reimagined tracks by notable artists like Thievery Corporation, Tosca, Craig Wedren, Cornershop, and Balkan Beat Box, creating dynamic versions suitable for dancefloors, lounges, and home listening. Drummer and producer Bill Speakman notes that remixing allows them to explore genres such as bhangra, samba, and soundtrack music while collaborating with their favorite artists.
