Sergei Prokofiev was a renowned Russian and Soviet composer, pianist, conductor, and music writer, born on April 23, 1891, in Sontsovka, Ekaterinoslav Province, Russian Empire, which is now Sontsivka, Ukraine. He passed away on March 5, 1953, in Moscow, USSR, present-day Moscow, Russian Federation. Prokofiev mastered numerous musical genres and is celebrated as one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. His name can also be alternatively transliterated as Sergey, Sergej, or Serge, and Prokofief, Prokofieff, or Prokofiew.
