Shakespears Sister was formed in 1988 as a solo project by Siobhan Fahey, marking her first musical outing since leaving Bananarama. In 1989, American backing vocalist and guitarist Marcella Detroit joined Fahey, turning Shakespears Sister into a duo with the hit single "You're History." The duo enjoyed a series of hit singles and released two successful albums before Fahey and Detroit parted ways in 1993. Fahey continued as the sole member until 1996. After a 13-year hiatus, she revived the band in 2009 to release a new album. In May 2019, Shakespears Sister announced their reunion.
