Shane Martin, also known as Neale Lundgren, hails from New Orleans and has a deep connection to soul music's emotional range. He began his career in the local garage scene, performing as a singer for bands such as the Twilights and an early version of the renowned Gaunga Dyns. Lundgren’s big break came when he was signed as a solo artist to Columbia/Epic. While he possessed a smooth and powerful vocal delivery, he lacked the distinctive qualities that would elevate him to the top tier of artists. His songs, like “Don’t Take Tomorrow Away,” leaned more towards Gene Pitney's style than that of Steve Marriott, yet his voice still carried a soulful presence, occasionally tinged with a slight sneer. Lundgren's work includes Northern Soul classics like "You're So Young" and "I Need You," which feature propulsive horns reminiscent of the brass section from "MacArthur Park," all composed by Jimmy Webb. He skillfully connects songs such as "Black is Black" by Los Bravos and ? and the Mysterians' "96 Tears," drawing on a shared bass line similar to "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)." These singles were produced by Jason Darrow, who had previously penned songs for ? and the Mysterians, including "Hanging on a String." Additionally, Lundgren offers a convincing rendition of Jerry Butler's "He Will Break Your Heart" and covers the Association’s soaring "Goodbye
