Shankar is a Tamil Indian violinist, singer, and composer born on April 26, 1950, in Madras, Tamil Nadu. He is known for his unique blend of Indian classical and Western styles. Shankar formed a fusion group in the 1970s with a guitarist and has collaborated with many prominent musicians, including Jonathan Davis from Korn on his solo project. He has recorded classical Indian music as well as several solo records. Shankar comes from a musical family, being the son of, brother of, and uncle to various musicians, and is also the brother-in-law of others in the music industry.
