Shepherd's Heard was formed in Shelby, Ohio, in 1965 by Kim Shepherd, a student at Shelby High School. Kim collaborated with three other students from the same school and sought a keyboard player through an advertisement in a Mansfield newspaper. Sid Foltz, a student from St. Peters High School, responded to the ad. Sid brought some experience to the group, having previously played with Mansfield's "Kings English."
