Shirlee Hunter, known as "The Country Sweetheart," was born on August 29, 1939, in Moneta, Virginia. While still a junior in high school, she became a prominent figure in the music scene, performing as part of the New Dominion Barn Dance, the WDVA Virginia Barn Dance, and the WRVA Old Dominion Barn Dance. She began her career by making appearances at local radio and television stations in Virginia and North Carolina alongside her uncle, forming a duo called the "Two Little Hillbillies." Shirlee also spent three years as a featured performer on the "Country Jubilee" show over WLSL-TV and appeared on the WDVA Barn Dance in Danville, Virginia. Her talent eventually led her to the CBS network show, "Country Style," solidifying her reputation in the country music genre.
