Shirley Scott was an American jazz organist and pianist, born on March 14, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She began performing around 1955 and was married to jazz saxophonist for approximately a decade starting in the early 1960s. Scott passed away on March 10, 2002, in her hometown of Philadelphia, just a few days shy of her 68th birthday.
