**Bio: Shit & Chalou** Shit & Chalou were the first successful all-female rock band from Denmark, formed in the winter of 1973 during the Danish Redstocking Movement. The name Shit & Chalou is a play on the Danish expression "skidt og kanel," which signifies a mix of positive and negative aspects. The band debuted on April 19, 1974, in Aarhus and quickly gained popularity, inspiring many women despite initial skepticism due to the rarity of all-female bands at the time. Their music, described as "beat-rock with a touch of jazz," featured Danish lyrics that resonated with women's experiences. They performed at significant events, including a women's festival in Copenhagen in 1975, which attracted around 40,000 spectators. Although the band members did not actively represent the women's liberation movement, their music was embraced by some activists. Shit & Chalou released their debut album in the spring of 1976, which was well-received. They continued to perform until their last album was released in 1979. A lawsuit from Chanel S.A. led to a court decision in 1981 that required them to change their name to Shit & Chalou. By this time, the band had lost some of its commitment, and the new name primarily affected reissues and compilations.
