Shorty Long was an American singer, songwriter, and musician known for his contributions to country and rockabilly music. Born on October 31, 1923, in Reading, Pennsylvania, he began studying music at the College of Rome at the age of 14, where he specialized in violin and classical music. Long was also a talented tenor vocalist and played the accordion, though he preferred the country fiddle. In the 1940s, he recorded numerous singles as a vocalist and led a band that appeared in the 1948 film "Powder River Gunfire." Long eventually settled back in Pennsylvania, where he and his wife, Dolly Dimples, produced country music shows. They performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, and made appearances on local television and various radio stations, including WEEV in Reading, WPAZ in Pottstown, WVLV in Lebanon, and WWVA in Wheeling, West Virginia. Shorty Long passed away on October 25, 1991, in his hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania.
