SHQ is a Czech jazz combo founded in 1961 by musicians who left their previous group. The name SHQ stands for “Spejbl + Hurvínek Quartet/Quintet,” reflecting their original connection to the Theatre in Prague, which was their first employer. Over the years, the group has been known by various names, including S+HQ, SH kvartet, SH kvintet, SH/Jazz Quintet, Sága rodu SHQ, and Happy Music SHQ. However, all releases should be filed under SHQ, with the exception of a brief mid-1960s period when Karel Velebný was not part of the combo.
