Sia, born Sia Kate Isobelle Furler on December 18, 1975, in Adelaide, Australia, is an Australian singer and songwriter known for her mezzo-soprano vocal range of 3 octaves and a semitone (B2–B5). She began her music career in the early 1990s, performing in the Adelaide acid jazz scene and joining the jazz-funk band Crisp at the age of 17. In 1997, she debuted as a solo artist with a trip-hop album released under her full name, which sold 1,200 copies, primarily in Adelaide. In 2000, Furler, now known simply as Sia, achieved her first top 10 hit with the single "Taken For Granted." Following this, she released three more downtempo solo albums, gaining international recognition for her contributions to various albums and through the popularity of her track "Breathe Me," which was featured in the series finale of HBO's Six Feet Under. Her fifth album, "We Are Born," released in 2010, marked a shift to a more upbeat pop direction and produced minor hits. Sia's mainstream success escalated when she was featured on a series of EDM hits. In 2014, she released a million-selling EDM-inspired album while adopting a public persona that involved hiding her face in videos and appearances.
