Sidaty et Mounina were a Mauritanian husband and wife duo hailing from griot families in the Tagant region. Sidaty (1924-2019) was renowned as the greatest male singer of the twentieth century and is widely believed to have written the lyrics for Mauritania's original post-independence national anthem, although he did not compose the melody. Their daughter is recognized as the greatest female singer and is among the few Moorish musicians known outside of Mauritania, along with their stepgranddaughter. The duo's only commercial recordings were made for Morocco's Boussiphone label in the 1960s, although they had numerous informal private recordings and made appearances on radio and television.
