Side Effect is an American vocal group that was formed in 1972. The original lineup included Augie Johnson, Milton Ellis, Anthony Hicks, and Vernon Woods. They gained recognition for their performance on the "Side Effect" album, specifically on the track "What You Need." In 1977, Lowe was replaced, and in 1979, St. James left the group. Howard departed for a solo career in 1985. In 1995, the group made a comeback and recruited Elaine Gibbs for their new album. The present members of Side Effect include Augie Johnson, Milton Ellis (1st tenor), Anthony Hicks (1st & 2nd tenor, baritone, bass), and Vernon Woods (1st & 2nd tenor, bass).
