Sidney Barnes is a rhythm and blues-soul singer and songwriter originally from Welch, West Virginia, born on February 6, 1941. He later moved to Chicago. During his youth, Sidney was involved in several Junior High and High School bands alongside classmates such as Marvin Gaye, Van McCoy, and Herb Feimster (of Peaches & Herb), which introduced him to the world of show business. Recognizing his talent, Ray Gordy (Raynoma, Berry Gordy's wife at the time) signed him to Jobete Publishing as a writer, believing he was more suited for songwriting than singing.
