Real Name: Simon Crab Born in Liverpool, England, Simon Crab is a notable figure in the UK electronic and Power Electronic music scenes. He began his musical journey in the late 1970s by founding the band Bourbonese Qualk with his brother. Although the meaning behind their band name was unclear, they embraced it nonetheless. Crab often found himself at odds with authority, a theme that would later resonate in his music, enriched with a clearer theoretical foundation. In the early 1980s, Crab actively promoted emerging electronic music by appearing on local radio stations in Liverpool. He initiated a call for submissions through ads in local magazines and established the Recloose Organisation, launching its debut compilation, “Sudden Departure,” in 1982. The label aimed to support new artists and foster ongoing funding, but it ultimately ceased operations in 1986 after 13 releases due to differing ideals among its contributors. The first Bourbonese Qualk album, “Laughing Afternoon,” was released in 1983 under Recloose, though by this time, Crab's brother had left the band. He was joined by Julian Gilbert (vocals, theatrics) and Steven Tanza (percussion). Throughout the years, the lineup of Bourbonese Qualk changed frequently, with Crab remaining the constant member until the band disbanded in 2001.
