Simon Dobson is an English composer and trumpet player born in Cornwall in 1981. He serves as the principal conductor of the Parallax Orchestra and is known for his work as a composer, producer, and music director internationally. Dobson has received critical acclaim for his compositions, earning two British Composer Awards for 'Symphony of Colours' and 'Journey of the Lone Wolf'. In 2014, he composed his first full-length film score for 'The Battles of The Coronel and the Falkland Islands', commissioned by the British Film Institute, which premiered at the London Film Festival's Archive gala concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. As a founding member of the session horn crew Badcore Horns, Dobson has performed as a trumpeter on over thirty albums, collaborating with artists such as Madness, Martha Reeves, Dry the River, and We are the Ocean. He recently toured with the London hip-hop band Lazy Habits and is currently the trumpeter for the Plymouth band Antimatador. In addition to his performance and composition work, he is a regular studio arranger and has written strings for numerous records. In 2015, Dobson released his first solo composition album, 'Euneirophrenia', which features the first brass band test piece to be printed on vinyl in nearly 30 years.
