Simply Red is a British soul and pop band formed in Manchester in 1984 by lead vocalist and songwriter Mick "Red" Hucknall, alongside three former members of another band: bassist Tony Bowers, drummer Chris Joyce, and keyboardist/brass player Tim Kellett. They were joined by guitarist Sylvan Richardson and keyboardist Fritz McIntyre. The band signed to a record label and released their debut album, "Picture Book," in October 1985. Over the years, the lineup of Simply Red changed significantly, and by 1996, after the release of their fifth album, "Life," Mick Hucknall remained the only original member, with the name Simply Red becoming synonymous with him. After being dropped by their label in 2000, they launched their own website, simplyred.com, which also served as their label, releasing the album "Home" in 2003 and all subsequent albums under it. Hucknall retired the Simply Red name following a farewell tour in 2010 but reunited in 2015 for a tour celebrating the band's 30th anniversary, during which they released the album "Big Love." Their most notable hits include "Money's Too Tight (To Mention)," "Holding Back The Years," "The Right Thing," "It's Only Love," "If You Don't Know Me By Now," "Something Got Me Started," "Stars," "Fairground," and "Sunrise."
