Sinéad O'Connor was an Irish singer-songwriter and activist, born on December 8, 1966, in Glenageary, County Dublin, Ireland. She passed away on July 26, 2023, in London, England, at the age of 56 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma. O'Connor achieved international fame with her debut studio album, "The Lion And The Cobra," released in 1987, and her 1990 album, "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got," which sold over seven million copies worldwide. The lead single from this album, "Nothing Compares 2 U," was recognized as the top world single of the year at the Billboard Music Awards. Throughout her career, she released several successful albums, including "Am I Not Your Girl?" (1992), "Universal Mother" (1994), and "Faith And Courage" (2000), all of which received gold certifications in various countries. Her 2005 album, "Throw Down Your Arms," achieved gold status in Ireland. O'Connor was known for her powerful activism, addressing issues such as child abuse, human rights, racism, and women's rights. A notable incident occurred during a 1992 performance on Saturday Night Live, where she tore up a photograph of Pope John Paul II to protest against abuse in the Catholic Church.
