Sir E.U is a Washington, DC-based experimental rapper known for his chaotic and improvisational style that seeks to dismantle genre boundaries and leave audiences speechless. Drawing inspiration from diverse influences, including cinéma vérité, anime, and Nicki Minaj, E.U has garnered critical acclaim from outlets such as Pitchfork, The Washington Post, and The FADER. His work, whether solo or in collaboration with contemporaries like the DC rap duo Model Home and experimental techno producer Huerco S, consistently pushes the envelope of eclectic sound. Growing up as an Ivorian-American in Washington, DC, E.U developed a rich musical vocabulary influenced by pop music, the DC go-go scene, and gospel bands. He began his career as a competitive lyricist in the underground DC rap scene as part of the duo Koolkluxklan, which gained early success before the tragic death of co-founder Avionadramida in 2012. This loss propelled E.U to evolve his style into a more confrontational and freeform expression, reminiscent of his musical hero MF DOOM, as he adopted a super-villain persona.
