Six by Seven is an English indie rock band that officially formed in Nottingham in 1996, having initially performed under the name "Friends Of..." since their first gig in late 1992. The band gained critical acclaim with the release of their first 12" single, 'European Me,' in 1997, followed by their debut album, The Things We Make, in 1998. The group experienced a significant change when Chris Olley left in November 2008, leading to a period of inactivity. Since then, all releases attributed to the band have been through Chris Olley, who considers them bootlegs, as they are not sanctioned by the other members. In 2011, Olley began a new project that included two live performances as a semi-unplugged band and resulted in one album. The band officially reformed in 2013 with a new lineup and released a new album. Key members include Chris Olley (vocals, guitar), James Flower (keyboards, saxophone, Hammond organ), Chris Davis (drums), Paul Douglas (bass), Martin Cooper (guitar), Sam Hempton (guitar), Tina Blower (bass & keyboards), Pete Stevenson (bass), Tony Doggen Foster (guitar), Ady Fletcher (bass), Ian Bissett (drums), and Steve Hewitt (drums).
