Skeeter Davis was an American country music singer and songwriter, born on December 30, 1931, in Dry Ridge, Kentucky. She passed away on September 19, 2004, in Nashville, Tennessee. Her grandfather, noticing her abundant energy as a child, nicknamed her Skeeter, which is slang for mosquito. Skeeter began her career in high school as part of the duo the Davis Sisters, adopting Betty Jack's last name despite them not being related. She was the sister of a songwriter and was married to a country music DJ from 1960 to 1964, and to a bassist from 1987 to 1996.
