Skip Mahoney was a US soul music artist and a founding member of The Casuals, a group formed in 1965. Born Harrison Hoaney, he grew up in the challenging environment of Ladroit Park in the District of Columbia, which was known for its unsavory characters. The neighborhood reminded him of the film serial The Bowery Boys, where Leo Gorcey played a character named “Slip” Mahoney, leading to the adoption of the nickname “Skip” Mahoney. He passed away in March 2020.
