Skyphone is an electronic trio formed in 1999 in Copenhagen, consisting of Keld Dam Schmidt, Thomas Holst, and Mads Bødker. The members, who had previously played in various rock bands during the nineties, began experimenting with samplers, tape decks, and Roland GM modules. Their initial creative process took place in a painter's studio, where they transformed the concrete environment into a unique soundscape, despite the challenges of using outdated equipment like a Power Mac 7300 and an AKAI S3000 sampler. Over time, the band moved to more luxurious premises in 2002, but they found that the myth of the shabby bohemian loft was not essential to their creativity. They upgraded their technology to new PowerBooks and software while continuing to explore the boundaries of digital sound, crafting intricate pop songs without vocals. Skyphone invites listeners to delve into the layers of their music, which features a deliberately ambiguous surface, leaving much to interpretation.
