Sleepy John Estes was an American blues singer and guitarist, born on January 25, 1899, in Ripley, Lauderdale County, Tennessee. He passed away on June 5, 1977, in Brownsville, Haywood County, Tennessee. Estes made his debut as a recording artist in Memphis in 1929 during a session organized for Victor Records. Throughout his career, he also recorded for Decca and Bluebird labels, with his last pre-war recording session occurring in 1941. After a long hiatus from the public eye, he briefly returned to recording at Sun Studio in Memphis in 1952, where he recorded "Runnin' Around" and "Rats in My Kitchen." In 1962, he was found by individuals who discovered he was completely blind and living in poverty. Following this, he resumed touring and recording.
