Slime is a German punk band formed in 1979 in Hamburg, Germany. They became one of the style-defining bands of the 1980s and are recognized as one of the most influential German punk bands of the early movement, significantly shaping the political attitude of the German punk scene with their anti-fascist lyrics. Their early work featured simple, catchy songs inspired by late 1970s British punk rock, but they evolved to incorporate more sophisticated song structures and complex lyrics. The band faced controversy, including accusations of "selling out" as they gained popularity, and their anti-American texts drew criticism within the left-wing scene. Notable songs like "Wir Wollen Keine Bullenschweine" (We Want No Bull Pigs) became subjects of investigation. After disbanding in 1984, Slime reunited in response to xenophobic pogroms, releasing two albums before disbanding again in 1994. In 2009, fifteen years later, the band reunited for live performances, celebrating 30 years since their formation. Following a successful reunion tour, they released a sixth studio album in 2012, utilizing lyrics from an anarchist writer since their main lyricist and ex-member chose not to participate. In July 2020, the vocalist left the band for health reasons, and in 2021, a new vocalist, a former homeless street singer, was found.
