Slowthai is a British rapper from Northampton, England, known for his gritty and rough instrumentals as well as his raw, politically charged lyrics, particularly regarding Brexit and Theresa May's tenure as Prime Minister of the UK. His stage name originates from a childhood nickname, as he had a speech impediment that caused him to speak slowly and with a drawl. Originally called Slow Ty, he changed it to Slowthai when he released his first single in 2016. His album "" (2019) was shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize in 2019.
