Slowthai is a British rapper from Northampton, England, known for his gritty and rough instrumentals, as well as his raw, politically charged lyrics that often address issues like Brexit and the tenure of Theresa May as Prime Minister. His stage name, which originates from a childhood nickname, reflects his speech impediment that caused him to speak slowly and with a drawl. Initially known as Slow Ty, he changed his name to Slowthai upon releasing his first single in 2016. His album released in 2019 was shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize that same year.
