Smersh is an experimental big-beat techno/industrial project formed by beat studio guru Mike Mangino and Chris Shepard in 1981. The duo, known for their work with The Poptards, began releasing cassettes and recorded improvised cuts every Monday night. They released numerous cassettes on their own label, Atlas King, and were featured on countless compilations. Notably, Smersh never performed live and never recorded the same track more than once.
