Smiley Lewis was an American rhythm and blues singer and, early in his career, a guitarist. He was born on July 5, 1913, in DeQuincy, Louisiana, and passed away on October 7, 1966, in New Orleans, Louisiana, due to cancer. Lewis began his recording career with DeLuxe in 1947 before moving to Imperial Records, where he recorded from 1950 to 1961, often backed by a band.
