Smokey Robinson is an American R&B and pop singer, songwriter, record producer, and former record executive, born on February 19, 1940, in Detroit. He was a founding member of the group that later became known as Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. In 1972, he left the group to pursue a solo career. Robinson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 as a performer and into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1990.
