Snooky Pryor was an American blues harmonica player and singer, born on September 15, 1921, in Lambert, Mississippi. He passed away on October 18, 2006, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Pryor's blues style developed during his time in the army, where he was stationed near Chicago and jammed with notable artists such as Sonny Boy Williamson and Homesick James, performing on Maxwell Street. His musical career began in earnest in 1945, and he made his recording debut in 1948 with "Telephone Blues," which is now regarded as one of the classics of postwar Chicago blues. Throughout the 1950s, he recorded intermittently and was in high demand as a session musician, collaborating with artists like Sunnyland Slim, Floyd Jones, and Homesick James, all part of the "Maxwell Street School." After a hiatus from the music scene during the 1960s and 1970s, Pryor resumed playing and performing regularly in the 1980s. He is also the father of a blues musician.
