Snowboy, whose real name is not specified, is a distinguished DJ, producer, percussionist, and band leader of The Latin Seeds. He has been a passionate advocate of Afro-Cuban Jazz for several decades. Initially drawn to the Teddy Boy rock scene, he became disillusioned with the violence surrounding it and was introduced to jazz and black music by a friend. Beginning his career as a DJ in the 1970s, he also learned percussion and found a natural fit with a label in the late 1980s. As a DJ, he ran the Hi-Hat Jazz-Dance Club at the Jazz Cafe in Camden Town, London. Following a wrist injury, he released his 12th album in 2004, aptly titled "New Beginnings." Snowboy is regarded as one of the UK's finest congueros and one of the most knowledgeable jazz dance DJs globally. He authored the book "From Jazz Funk & Fusion To Acid Jazz: The History Of The UK Jazz Dance Scene" in 2009 and participates in the regular Southend Jazz Festival. He is also the brother of Paul Cotgrove, a film director involved with the Southend Film Festival and Horror On Sea film festivals.
